We study grammar so that we can improve the quality of our language so that people can understand properly what we mean to say.

Yes it is very helpful. It helps us to understand as well as express our views to others. It helps us to communicate in a proper way .eg., a question arises that what is the use comma in a sentence , without it also we can understand . But if we want to understand better what is meant otherwise we will not be able to understand and will merge everything which can cause miss understanding.
