why we take antibiotics when we get cold even antibiotics not work on virus?

we take antibioticcs even if they dnny work on virus so that the other harmful bacteria may be destroyed and we be well

You are quite right antibiotics can't kill bacteria.But friend, in viral infection like you say cold,the natural defense mechanism of body is effected, body is liable to be attacked by bacteria, too. So to check the Secondary bacterial infection we give antibiotics, sorry,we take antibiotics. Hope you can understand it easily. Thanks
