When we choose a substance for transmission of current from one location to another, we look at some parameters. They are:
Electrical conductivity and resistivity, Cost per unit mass, malleability and ductility, hardness, density (weight/volume), availability on Earth, its lifetime duration in usage, ease of manufacturing on large scale etc..
The substances to be considered are :
Copper, Aluminum, Iron, Gold, Magnesium, Silicon, Graphite, Hydrogen, bronze, Tin, water, silver..
So we compare the various parameters and choose the best combination of the values for the above parameters, we choose Copper and Aluminum.
For example silver has a higher conductivity but it is expensive.
