why we use sand paper to clean magnesium ribbon. why can't we use normal paper?​

it is because.....the mg form oxide layer by reacting with air forming MgO

so before using we remove that oxide layer by sandpaper so that oxide layer doest react with our desired chemical experiment

Because Magnesium Oxide that was formed on the Magnesium ribbon is hard to be removed by a normal paper so we need a sandpaper to do so.
