By the Versailles Treaty, Germany lost its overseas colonies, a tenth of its population, 13% of its territories, and its a massive amount of its iron and coal to France, Poland, Denmark and Lithuania. The Allies demilitarized Germany to weaken its power. They also occupied the resource-rich Rhineland for most of the 1920s. The German were completely stripped of their dignity and pride after the harsh and humiliating Versailles Treaty was proclaimed. Also, they were living in a time of acute economic and political crisis.
