The Indian Freedom struggle post Revolution of 1857 is divided into three phases.

Era of Moderates:- In This Time before and at the start of 1900s. The Indian Freedom Struggle was in its initial budding state with arrival of people like Gopal Krishna Gokhale,Dadabhai Naroji,Raja Ram Mohan Roy,Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar etc. and with the Indian National Congress they were not against the British rule but were for people's rights. Their Policy was to “prayer,Petition and plea”. They Helped the People with all kinds of legal work and Exploration. Over the time Indian National Congress became a place for people to give their grievances. Since Most people in this category were Lawyers and high class people. British tried to Portray them as “Higher Class Brahmins, Con men or frauds”.

Era of Extremists or Assertive Nationalist - after the Moderates failed to achieve their objectives in with the dawn of 20th century India had seen a Radical and Booming Rise in New Form of Nationalism and Pioneers of Which were. LAL,Pal and Bal( Lala Lajpat Rai,Bipin Chandra Pal and Bal Gangadhar Tilak) . Those People Rejected the Idea of Moderates of “Prayers,Petition and Pleas”. Instead asserted on the Fact that the solution to the problem only lies in Freedom of Indians from British Rule. They adopted strong and Sometimes Violent actions and Pushed for Measures like use of swadeshi goods and Defiance of British Law. Their Main Demand was Swaraj( Self Rule). The Assertive Nationalism Rise because of the foundation laid by Moderates in Exposing the Looting Nature of British Government and rising Poverty and Outbreaks of Famines and more specific Political Events such as Universities act of 1904 and Calcutta act(1899) And Finally We had seen the Era of Mahatma Gandhi.
