shivangananangla: I mean how can it say that the Britishers were cruel if they were offering more money?

Answer:

The British were cruel to the people beacause while they came to India for trade relations, they found that the Indian people were not so clever and they were uneducated and they kept helping them blindly. The british found this a great chance to take over the control of India to flourish their own countries and took good advantage of this situation. When the Indians protested to give back their motherland, the British answered them with voilence and cruelity. One good example of the unjustice deeds of the British towards the Indians can be the Jallianwala Bagh incident.

Thank you...  ^_^
