when wet clothes are spread out the water present in clothes evaporates taking latent heat of the surrounding and more over spreading it increases surface area which inturn increases the rate of evaporation therefore wet clothes faster when spread out

Because of larger surface area, more evaporation can take place.The rate of evaporation depends on the surface area. If the surface area is more then the larger number of molecules will evaporate
