Why when we set off a fire aeound it it looks somewhat hot amd fade type,why?

this is because of the refraction of light from the rarer medium that is hot air to the denser medium that is cold air. the sides appears to be faded. Or the heat is coming from extinguished fire light retract from it and appears to be faded .
