Why wires carrying electricity should not be touched when bare footed ?

cz our body is a good conductor of electricity.....so it will allow the cuurent to pass through ut causing a electric shock....but if we wear plastic slippers ....plastic slippers being poor conductor of electricity...doe not allow the current to pass through our body....breaking the contact with earth.....will save us...
