Why work is a scalar quantity?

Scalar quantity are those which have only magnitude but no direction.

For example : Distance, speed, mass etc.

In other words, work due to displacement caused by a force is a scalar quantity. The dot product of vectors quantities is always scalar which means it is has only magnitude and no direction.
