WKT,
W=F.S
Here F and S are in dot product.

And they both are vector quantities.

According to laws of vector the dot product of two vectors is always a scalar quantity.
Hence, work is a scalar quantity.

Hope it helps..

tekashraop5822k: the work is the dot product between the force vector and the displacement vector thus the work is a scalar quantity.
alokkashyap: explain it properly
alokkashyap: but what is dot product
Anonymous: dot means multiplication

work is considered to because the simple multiplication of two scalers F and S are the magnitudes of force and displacement which does not mean cross or vector products....

therefore work is considered to be scaler
quantity.... and work also not have a direction
