Indian shipping companies not succeed during British period, due to following reasons:-
1. The introduction of iron-made ships, India was deprived of her differential advantage in respect of timber.
2. British companies dominated in the coastal and overseas trade of India for more than hundred years and suppressed the Indian shipping companies by forming different rules.
3. that time Britishers practised the Differential tariff policy , according to which high taxes were imposed on Indian goods being exported, due to this indian shipping companies not succeed.
