The narrator, Helen Keller, suffered from the fear that she was not sure of her memory. She did not have faith in her remembrance of her childhood experiences because she was very much confused that what she recalled was actually reality or imagination. She was also discouraged by the fact that she had already forgotten several vital experiences and what she remembered of them was also in fade traces. Besides she had earlier faced allegations of plagiarism due to which she hesitated to write her autobiography.
