Dry and wet waste (non-biodegradable and bio degradable wastes) should be collected and disposed off separately because of the nature of these two different types of wastes.

Wet wastes can be acted upon by bacteria and microorganisms through their enzymes and it can be converted from complex organic material to simpler inorganic materials, which can be used as manure.

However, dry wastes can not be acted upon by bacteria and microorganisms through their enzymes an these substances persist in the environment for a very very long time, harming it. Hence, they should be sent to the industries or recycling plants for recycling.
