In winters, there is rainfall due to the northeast trade winds. Why? Because there are offshore winds which blow from land to sea but due to India's topography, they change direction and flow over the Bay of Bengal and pick up moisture. Thus when they blow towards Tamil Nadu coast during winter, they bring rains.
