  • Freezing point depression  is a so-called  colligative property , and the depression of the freezing point (i.e.  fusion point ) of the SOLVENT is proportional to the numbers of species of solute in that solution.
  • Sometimes this freezing point depression can give an estimate for the molecular mass of the solute in SOLUTION, and it can do this by very simple means with a solvent like cyclohexane, and a good Beckmann thermometer.
