Geographical isolation is the major factor for reproductive isolation in sexually reproducing animals only,it cannot be in case of asexually reproducing organisms.

neha23ghosalkap4gh98: But why is that so?
abbaskanch786: Geographical isolation prevents gene flow between populations of a species whereas asexual reproduction generally involves only one individual. In an asexually reproducing organism, variations can occur only when the copying of DNA is not accurate. Therefore, geographical isolation cannot prevent the formation of new species in an asexually reproducing organism.

No, the reason behind it is no exchange of genetic material with other species in such organisms.

Explanation:

  • Asexually reproduced organisms have very little variation over generations. They involve from only one parent. DNA Mutation is responsible for variation.
  • But, small amount of variations is not sufficient for giving rise to new species.
  • Geographical isolation is responsible for interruption of gene flow. Geographical isolation is an important factor in the specialization of the organism.
