Yes, I agree with this statement. In the chapter ''The last leaf'', Johnsy had lost hope for living. She thought that when the last leaf of the Ivy creeper would fall, she was going to die! But, after Beherman painted the masterpiece, and it was the leaf, Johnsy realised that she had been very pessimistic and hence had lost interest in life. So, she promised her friends and her dear ones. This hope that wed built in her and the medicines helped her to recover from pneumonia.
