wind is responsible for the formation of mushroom rocks and sand dunes in debris . Explain
Answers
Answer:
An active agent of erosion and deposition in the deserts
is wind. In deserts we can see rocks in the shape of a
mushroom, commonly called "mushroom rocks". Mushroom rocks are Ventifacts in the shape of a mushroom. In deserts, a greater amount of sand and rock particles are transported close to the ground by the winds which cause more bottom erosion in overlying rocks than the top.
Winds erode the lower section of the rock more than the upper
part. Therefore, such rocks have narrower base and wider
top. When the wind blows, it lifts and transports sand
from one place to another. When it stops blowing the
sand falls and gets deposited in low hill – like structures.
These are called "sand dunes". Sand dunes are formed as a result of deposition by wind. Dunes are common in all sandy regions, deserts and beaches. Sand dunes move gradually in the direction of prevailing winds.
