The reason is stated below

  • Gravity experienced on Earth is 9.8 m/s² while that on moon is 1.6 m/s². The gravity on moon is 1/6th times of earth's gravity.
  • Thus, the weight on moon decreases to 1/6 of it's original value.
  • Hence, his weigh when he landed on the moon was 60 pounds as compared to earth's 360 pounds.
  • Weigh can be calculated by the formula - m*g, where m is mass while g acceleration due to gravity.
