The current position of state-owned enterprise monopolies in South Africa are declining. This is because the state-owned enterprises' monopolies face problems such as , incompetence, mismanagement and corruption. For example, for electric generation, Eskimo has been performing poorly with a limited power supply , which had led to low outputs in the industrial sector and  agriculture  which depend on power. The state-owned enterprises' monopolies' under performance has led to decreased output, high debts and unemployment.
