With increase in carbon content in high strength low alloy steels

 1.Toughness will increase and hardness/strength will decrease

2. Ductility, and hence toughness will decrease with added carbon in sub-eutectoid steels, but will gain hardenability & carbide formation, giving strength and rigidity, but increasing brittleness.
