it is important to preserve them as the r essential for maintaining balance of nature
and they are disappearing due to the increase in pollution,deforestration,urbanisation,poachingetc.
this is just an hint if u have to write an essay on it u need to elaborate the points
i think u need to know meaning of the keywords given above
1)deforestration-cutting on tree on large scale{replanting is not done on the same scale}
2)urbanisation-rapidly changing of villages into cities
3)poaching - hunting and killing of animals
