With oil or grease on cloth soap forms,
B) emulsion is the correct answer.

This phenomenon can be explained by the micelle formation about which you can find out and read in 10th CBSE Science textbook (4th chapter Carbon and it's compounds)

Answer:

With oil or grease on cloth soap forms emulsion.

Therefore, the option (b) is correct.

Explanation:

Emulsion are the colloidal solutions in which both dispersed phase and dispersion medium are liquids.

  • Soap is an excellent cleanser. It has ability to act as an emulsifying agent. The substance which is added to stabilize the emulsion is called emulsifier or emulsifying agent.
  • It means that while oil which can attract dirt, doesn't naturally mix with water. Soap can suspend oil or dirt in such a way so that they can be removed.
  • Grease or oil are nonpolar in nature as well as insoluble in water. When soap and oils are mixed. Nonpolar hydrocarbon portion of the micelles will break up the non-polar oil molecules. Then a different type of micelles will form which contain non-polar soiling molecules in their center.

Thus, grease or oil ‘dirt’ attached to them are trapped inside the micelle and can be rinsed away with little force.
