With regard to germination answer the following question : state the function of micropyle.

(i) When soaked in water, the seeds absorb water mainly through the micropyle and make it available to the embryo for germination.
(ii) It helps in diffusion of respiratory gases for the growing embryo

It is through the micropylar end the pollen tube enters the ovule depositing the sperm which will result in the fertilization. The micropyle helps in absorbing the water at the time of germination of the seed. It is through this micropyle the root emerges out at the time of germination of the seed
