Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration.
The three conditions that can be seen in cells of plants and animals are -
→ Hypertonic solution :- A solution having greater concentration of solutes on the outside of a cell compared to the interior of the cell.
→ Hypotonic solution :- A solution in which there is lower concentration of solutes on the outside the cell compared to the interior of the cell.
→ Isotonic solution :- A solution which equal concentration of solutes both in the interior of the cell and outside the cell. When cells are in Isotonic solution, movement of water outside the cell is exactly balanced by the movement of water inside the cell.
