with which gas in the air does the coal react on igniting??

Coal gas , gaseous mixture - mainly Hydogen ,


methane and Carbon monoxide formed by distructive distillation of bituminous coal and used as fuel.


Sometimes steam is added to react with hot cake , thus increa Sing the yield of gas .

On ignition , coal react with oxygen present in air.

  • Ignition may be defined as process of burning of a substance in presence of oxygen to produce light energy, heat energy etc.
  • Coal is mainly consist of carbon and hydrogen.
  • Coal reacted with oxygen presented in air to ignite and to produce heat energy.
