without knowing what type of mirror how they have written v as -80

the question said that the image of a candle flame is made 80 cm in front of the mirror .. that means .. On left side of the mirror .. and as the rules of sign convention .. any distance measured on left side of a mirror are taken as negative ! so.. that's why they wrote (-80)cm ...
