Women representation in the loksabha :

In our country, from the very beginning, women have less representation in politics and political institutions. But today, the perspective changes are taking place in India as well.

The 73rd and 74th amendment reserved 33% of seats for women in local self governing institutions. The percentage has been raised to 50% in several states including Maharashtra.

If we compare the women representation in 1951-52 elections, the number of women MP's in loksabha were 22, that is 4.5% and the latest election held in 2014 has 66 number of women MP's that is 12.15%.

The gradual change is seen in the women representation in politics.

The Women's Reservation Bill (108th amendment) has been introduced in the national parliament to reserve 33% of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha seats for women.
