Wood is a bad conductor
of electricity. However
when used as electrodes in
the process of electrolysis,
pencils are capable of
conducting electricity.

Answer:

pencils are capable of conducting electricity because of its core substance that is graphite. Graphite forms an exception to non-metals ( bad conductor of heat & electricity) by conducting electricity. That's why, pencils are capable of conducting electricity during electrolysis.

[ Note: Whole pencil doesn't conduct electricity, only its core material (graphite) does. So, the wood of pencil has no role to play during conduction]
