Wooden Or Concrete Sleepers Are Kept Below The Railway Line. Explain Why?
Answers
Answer:
As answered by many people..the need for sleepers.
Explanation:
I would like to throw lights on critics of why it was used and why it is replaced..
A great achievement was projected by the indian government when large scale of wooden sleepers were used for in tracks.
Wood:
No huge industrial cost as compared to concrete cemented sleepers.
Raw material easily available from forests hence no mining cost.
Easily movable (lighter than concrete one)
Self-reliant (no outside technological support)
These were the benefits which were projected as a great achievement but beyond this a bitter truth is that it led to Large scale Deforestation leading to a great ecological imbalance.
However, correction was made and now Railway Track is developed in Cemented base but by the time India realised it's bad impacts we lost a huge Forest Area.
This is an example Development without Impact assessment goals.
So,now wherever you see wooden sleepers, they were made more than 2 decades ago.
There are many such developments in India leading to degeneration..like environmental degradation in use of Coal-Fire Thermal Power generating huge greenhouse gases, building of multi purpose dams without long term goals ignoring the impact assessments.
