Woody plants carry gaseous exchange through?

This is because in woody plants as the stem increases in diameter which happens due to the production of secondary xylem and secondary phloem, the cortex and epidermis gets destroyed. Periderm is formed, which replaces epidermis. Areas of loosely packed cells in the periderm that function in gas exchange are called lenticels.
