In the movie, the story begins with Rapunzel wanting to go see the fireworks on her birthday. But Mother Gothel doesn't let her out of the tower because she is scared someone will steal Rapunzel's magical hair, which has grown so long since she has been trapped in the caste, from her. Rapunzel only gets to go out when a thief named Flynn Rider accidentally ends up in her castle. He is surprised by her long hair and her innocence, but agrees to show her the fireworks.
