work done =(F cos tetha) d but cos tetha =d/F: which gives d=F cos tetha.....so substitute 'd' =F cos tetha in W=F cos tetha d: will give W = d²?

Answer:

No W cannot be equal to d^2

Explanation

Remember these points:

1. When there is equal sign then units on bot LHS and RHS has to be equal. so

in W = d^2 is not possible cause joule cannot me equal to metre^2.

2. The wrong part is making cos theta = F/d which is not possible. and this makes your final equation wrong(W=d^2). Cos theta has no unit but F/d will be equal to N/m.

so basically

cos theta has to be equal to either (d1/d2) or (F1/F2) the units has to be same.
