Answer:

Today I saw a 3 year old child who was falling sick on and off since 3 months. His beautiful mother was in tears and she confessed to me that she was feeling guilty that the child is falling sick because she sends him to daycare when she goes to work. I was perplexed! If not day-care, children pick up infections at school or play area also right? Should mothers continue to work with guilt? Not at all! I decided to pen his article right away....

Having a working mother is definitely an advantage to the child. Mothers who are working raise more independent children. Their children learn to take care of themselves early in life when compared to children of non-working mothers. Working mothers are excellent positive role models. Their girl children will realise that women need to think about education and career and stabilise themselves in life rather than just marrying and have children. Boys realise that taking care of household chores is everyone's responsibility. Women who work are less likely to suffer from depression. Women who are frustrated and depressed are poor role models and display erratic upbringing of their children. It is quality time that matters with children, not just the presence alone! Working women seem to spend more quality time with their children. As long as the mothers are able to establish a good balance between work commitments and parenting commitments, the emotional development of children of working women will continue to be on par with children of non-working women! Infact, working women are happier and have better sense of fulfillment making them to be better supportive life-partners, thereby nurturing and nourishing beautiful family relationships. There is also ample evidence that working women children do better in school and are able to strike a good balance between work and family in their family lives. Above all, working women contribute to economy of the family, ensure stable finances and contribute to better quality of life to the family unit. Infact, many working women are sole breadwinners of the house!

There is no reason why a mother should work with guilt!
