There were plenty of reasons that influenced the first uprising of Indians against the British rule. One of the best among them are the Doctrine of Lapse. Doctrine of lapse, a British Policy had created more surge in the hearts of Indians and Indian rulers. There would be an uprising happened even though the EIC had withdrawn the Enfield Rifles which posed as a trigger for the uprising.
The revolt of 1857 was also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857. This was the major revolution and uprising of Indians against the rule of British East India Company. However the rebellion resulted in the victory of British but it was the first major spark that created the necessity of freedom among Indians.
The revolt extended for one year from 1857 to 1858.
