The decision taken by the Panchayat is on the lower level and are not applicable on the upper level.
As per the Supreme Court, there is no legal sanctity that is attached by the verdict given by the Panchayat.
But this is now changed as they are given the right to take a decision and people have to follow it.
In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has held that there is no legal sanctity attached to verdicts of village panchayats, including khaps, that touch personal lives of couples, even if the community accepts such decisions.
