LET the number of 50 paisa coins be x and 25 paisa coins be y
so , 50x +25y = 5000. - - - - - (1) ( converting values in paisa)
and x +y = 140. - - - - - - (2)
so x = 140 - y
PUTTING the value of x in equation (1)
so, 50(140 - y) + 25y = 5000
7000 - 50y + 25y = 5000
-25y = 5000 -7000
-25y = - 2000
==> y = 2000/25 = 80
SO, the number of coins 25 paisa is 80 now putting this value of y in eq ( 2 )
x + y = 140
x + 80 = 140
and x = 140 - 80 = 60
==> x = 60
50 paise coins = 60
and 25 paise coins = 80
