(4) He and his wife, Savitribai Phule, were pioneers of women's education in India. (4) (5) Phule started his first school for girls in 1848 in Pune at Tatyasaheb Bhide's residence or Bhidewada. (6) He, along with his followers, formed the Satyashodhak Samaj (Society of Truth Seekers) to attain equal rights for people from lower castes. People from all religions and castes could become a part of this association which worked for the upliftment of the oppressed classes.

Jyotiba Phule's wife name was Savitribai Phule. Jyotirao phule was also known as Mahatma Phule.He was great philosopher and writer. Jyotiba phule and his wife established first school for girls on 1st Jan 1848 at Bhide wada, pune.

He worked hard to remove social reforms, like untouchability from the society.

Jyotirao phule promoted widow remarriage. He wrote the famous book Gulamgiri.Jyotiba phule died at the age of 63, on 28 November 1890 in pune.
