Disaster is an undesirable occurrence resulting from forces that are largely outside human control, strikes quickly with little or no warning, which causes or threatens serious disruption of life and property including death and injury to a large number of people.

1. Earthquakes

An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves.

Focus:—The place of origin of an earthquake inside the earth.

Epicenter:—Point on the earth’s surface vertically above the focus.
Maximum damage is caused at the epicenter.

Wave Velocity:—5 to 8 km per second through the outer part of the crust but travel faster with depth.

Isoseismic Line:—A line connecting all points on the surface of the earth where the intensity is the same.

2. Floods

A flood is an overflow of water on land. Sometimes a river might receive extra water, either from heavy rains or other natural disasters. When this happens, the water overflows from its normal path in the river bed and onto the dry land. This is called a flood. Flash floods happen quickly. Extreme flooding can also be caused by a tsunami or a large storm that will cause the sea to surge inland. The most deadly flood was in 1931 in China and it had killed about 2,500,000 people.

CAUSES
1)Rains
2) Ice and snow melts
3) Strong winds in coastal areas
4) Dam breaking
5) River overflow

3. Landslides

There are wide varieties of the names given to the denudation process whereby soil or rocks are displaced along the slope by mainly gravitational forces and landslides are one them. Landslides refer to the movement of mass of rock, debris or earth down the slope, when the shear stress exceeds the shear strength of the material.

CAUSES
1) Increase of shear stress
2) Decrease of material strength
