Early Life
Pichai Sundararajan , more commonly known to us as Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai, in the state of Tamil Nadu on July 12, 1972. His father Raghunath Pichai worked as an Electrical Engineer in General Electric in Chennai .His father was the manager of a factory that made components for electrical objects. The stories of the work challenges faced by his father always inspired Pichai. At the age of 12 he saw technology in his hands when his father brought a land line phone .His mother, Lakshmi was a stenographer.
Education
He compled his Class x from Jawahar Vidyalaya , at Ashok Nagar, city where his family lived and Class 12 from Vana Vani school at Chennai. He graduated from IIT Kharagpur in Metallurgical Engineering. He completed MS (Masters in Science) from Stanford University in Material sciences and Engineering. He did his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Pre-Google Career
He worked for McKinsey and Company in consulting. He contributed in engineering and product management at Applied Materials during his pre- Google days.
Career at Google
He joined Google in 2004 and worked on popular products like Toolbar, Google Gears and Google Pack before Chrome was launched. Google noticed that the toolbar increased the user searches. Then Google’s very own browser Google Chrome started. He led product management and found Google’s client software products Google Chrome and Chrome OS (operating system). In 2008 he was appointed as VP (vice president) of product development. He introduced Chrome browser and it was followed by Chrome OS in 2009. He became a well known face of Google and came to limelight at Google presentations from 2008. By 2012 he was the senior VP of Chrome and apps. He stepped into the shoes of Andy Rubin as the overseer of all Android related products. In 2015 Larry Page was retiring from Google to take up command at Alphabet Inc. . A year earlier he was announced the Product Chief at Google by Larry Page.. He was contender for the post Miscrosoft’s new CEO, a job went to Satya Nadella.
