Modern History of India. During the late 16th and the 17th Centuries, the European trading companies in India competed with each other ferociously. With increasing intrusion of aliens in their lives, a group of middle class Indians formed the Indian National Congress (1885).

Modern Indian History began with the death of Aurangzeb (1707). Modern Indian History is a sum of coming of British and India's freedom struggle. It was characterized by economic decline, constitutional development, social changes, communal riots, etc. There was change in education system, political structure, social structure, police and judiciary. Mahatma Gandhi became the national leader. Indian National Congress was also formed during this period. Partition of India into India and Pakistan also took place during modern India.
