Comprehension and intelligent reading:

Understanding comprehension is defined as the level of understanding of a text/message. This understanding derives from the relations between the words that are written and how they generate knowledge outside the text/message.

Intelligent Reading is an act of intelligence. The more you read, the smoother you will get.  

If you try too hard to upsurge your understanding of complex subjects by reading things that are beyond your current level of understanding, you will only bore yourself and discarded your time.

Find some topic that welfare you. Read about it. Then read things related to it. Swiftly, you will open yourself up to new ideas.
