♦ SOUND:

It is a mechanical wave which requires a medium for its transmission.

e.g. • Sound of bird chirping

• Sound of leaves rustling

♦ VIBRATION:

It is a back-and-forth motion, which takes place in the particles of a medium when a wave propagates through it.

e.g. • Vibration of air when speaking

• Vibration of mobile phone

♦ RAREFACTION:

In a medium through which a wave is propagating, any region which has comparitively lower density is called a rarefaction, i.e. a rarefaction is any region between two compressions in a medium through which a wave is travelling.
