Animals cannot synthesise their food. They are all heterotrophs. They depend on plants or other animals for their food. They cannot exhibit autotrophic nutrition. Exceptional cases are some corals which synthesise their own food but with the help of algae in them. Chloroplasts of algae are used by corals to synthesise their food.
