When a glass rod is dipped in concentrated hydrochloric acid is introduced in the jar containing ammonia gas white colored fumes are observed which is denser.

when a glass rod is dipped in concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl) is introduced in the jar containing ammonia gas N{ H }_{ 3 }. A white coloured dense fumes are observed. This test  is mainly used for the detection of ammonia.

Let's write the chemical reaction between HCl and N{ H }_{ 3 } is as follows.

HCl\quad +\quad N{ H }_{ 3 }(g)\quad \rightarrow \quad N{ H }_{ 4 }Cl\\ \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad \quad Ammonium\quad chloride
