A laptop is the compact computer device that one can keep on top of one's lap and then work comfortably. Of course it may be more comfortable to place it on a table in an inclined position and then to keep feet under the table and work on it. A laptop has become a common electronic gadget and a prestigious possession of the children and adults. Over the last two decades the capabilities of laptops have increased at the same cost.
A loptop came into being in 1990s. The speed, capacity and usefulness of laptop have increased tremendously since then. A desktop computer is fixed at one location in the office or at home. A laptop was invented mainly for those who are on the move and want to work during their leisure times making themselves comfortable in any posture and anywhere in the house. So laptop removes the negative point of getting body pains from using desktops.

Many professors use their laptops during their classes and assignments etc. A laptop is advantageous to many as it starts up quickly for one to be working quickly.
A laptop that was a luxury and possessed only by top business executives has now become a handy gadget for many. We should put the laptop to good uses only as it is a costly gadget purchased with a positive intention for productivity. Nowadays with mobile wireless connectivity people are able to be on the job, connected to social media, world of knowledge, films, entertainment, news media and educational worlds. Many students of postgraduate studies in many high standard institutions are given laptops for doing their preparations, presentations, educational work and projects. There have been some projects in technological institutes that have created a cheap laptop type computer at one third price. That was meant for low end users in rural areas.
The disadvantage of small size of keyboard and of limited capacity are overcome with external keyboard, external devices.
There could be some disadvantages of laptops related to generation of e-waste that is harmful to the environment. Also, it is a bit trouble when a laptop is in repair, as it has to be repaired by a service personnel and usually not possible by oneself easily. Due to improvements in software and hardware technologies one perhaps upgrades one's laptop or buy a new one every four to five years.
