Ryan loved his home town, the beautiful city in the North –East, fondly called ‘The Scotland of the East’, Shillong. He would never exchange living in any other place for it. There was only one thing Shillong lacked and something Ryan really longed. It was ‘snow’.
It was the month of January. Shillong grew freezingly cold. As Ryan slipped into his warm bed he looked out at the dark sky he saw a shooting star and wished it would snow.
As he snuggled into bed and felt fast asleep he was rudely awakened by his mother. She told him to dress warmly and come outside immediately. Shillong being an earthquake prone area, Ryan was used to these sudden waking ups.
As he rushed out he was awe-struck. It was early morning and the hills, the garden, the roads were all covered with a silver powder. As he stood standstill gazing at the picturesque landscape he realized his wish had come true. It had snowed.
His father and younger sister were already piling up the snow and rolling them into balls. He joined them. Soon a charming looking snow man shaped up. Mother lent her red muffler, her Mexican hat and her sunglasses to dress the snow man. Ryan made a smaller one to give the snow man company.
What fun it was that day! Slowly the temperature began to rise. The sun shone brightly and like ice cream the snow men began to melt. So did all the snow around. Ryan had to return home. But he did not forget to thank God that night for granting him his wish for one day. The night was full of snowy dreams. Ryan slept peacefully in his dreamy world of snow.
