Meteorological instruments are the equipment used to sample the state of the atmosphere at a given time. Each science has its own unique sets of laboratory equipment. In order to measure (record) air and soil temperatures, various types of meteorological thermometers and thermographs are used. The humidity of the air is measured with psychrometers, hygrometers, and hygrographs; atmospheric pressure is measured with barometers, aneroid barometers, barographs, and hypsometers.

However, meteorology is a science which does not use much lab equipment but relies more on field-mode in situ observation and remote sensing equipment.
